Planning & Zoning Commissioner Training - 2021

A webinar to orient new and continuing planning (and zoning) commissioners, elected leaders, and staff to their roles and responsibilities related to planning and zoning. The webinar is designed as a refresher for elected and appointed officials, auditors, administrators, and others who are involved planning and zoning at any level of local government. Topics discussed include considerations for decision-making, non-conforming uses, conditions of approval, and how plans inform and direct decision-making, among several others. Participants will be encouraged to come prepared with questions-significant time will be set aside for questions and answers after the main presentation has finished.


Proposal Evaluation:

A 201- Level Training Session on Planning Proposal Evaluation. This session will look at planning documents, technical background, criteria, and findings to help evaluate planning proposals that come before your board or staff. As always with NDPA Training, there will be time set aside for questions and answers. Non-Conformities

In this webinar, panelists will walk you through the definition of a non-conformity and the ways in which one can be created, types of non-conformities, how to handle them in the context of current planning, and tips for updating your land use code to best address non-conformities. This webinar will be helpful to planners across North Dakota as examples of non-conformities from both urban and rural settings will be discussed.
